In our Life Plan Community nestled in the breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountains, we believe in providing unforgettable moments for our residents. That’s why our Life Enrichment Team organized a trip on the Nantahala River to showcase the best of senior living at Givens Estates!

The white water rafting excursion was booked with the Nantahala Outdoor Center, also known as NOC. Nantahala Outdoor Center originated as a small motel and gas station along the Nantahala River in Bryson City, NC in the early 1970’s. Its main campus is one of the nation’s most active paddle sports event venues; hosting the 2013 International Canoe Federation Freestyle World Championships and more. 23 Olympians, including two gold medalists, have called NOC home. Yes, that’s right. Our residents navigated Olympian grade rapids!

One of our future residents moving into the Givens Estates retirement community, found himself on this particular Appalachian Mountain adventure. “…(my) plan was to ease my old bones into a soft tube and enjoy a leisurely float in the warm and lazy French broad,” Mr. Cifaldi said, “Somewhere along the way I made a wrong turn, met up with some wild, adventurous women, and found myself in a raft; showered with ice cold water while being battered and buffeted in the rapids of the turbulent Nantahala. Nonetheless I had a great time!” Together they traversed the raging rapids, reveled in the stunning natural beauty surrounding them, and coasted safely back to NOC.

“All kidding aside, being a firm believer in ‘giving credit where credit is due'” Mr. Cifaldi commented, “I must share my sincere approval regarding how all the field trips I have participated in have been handled by the Life Enrichment staff. An important responsibility is associated with their positions; that of taking care of and keeping a watchful eye on all the residents. It is apparent they take this obligation seriously and do a superlative job in carrying it out. They are truly Life Enrichers.”
