Givens Estates is pleased to announce that Gloria Trujillo, MD has been named by Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) as the new Medical Director for Givens Estates effective immediately. Many of you already know Dr. Trujillo (also known on Campus as Dr. T), as she has been active for many years on our Campus as an attending physician in the MAHEC Clinic, Wood Assisted Living and in Givens Estates Health Center.

Dr. Trujillo is passionate about the art of family medicine and its foundation. She graduated from George Washington University School of Medicine in 1992 and completed her Family Medicine Residency training at Fairfax Family Practice Centers outside Washington, D.C. in 1995. After residency, she worked for Fairfax Family Practice Centers in private practice for 3 years and served as preceptor with family practice residents. She also worked for Kaiser in the Rocky Mountain Division for three (3) plus years where she learned a great deal about cost containment, quality assurance and played a large role in rolling out the electronic medical record. For six years prior to coming to Duke Family Medicine she had the opportunity in South Berwick, Maine to set up and grow a practice as Senior Managing Family Physician. Currently she is still an Assistant Consulting Professor for the Department of Community and Family Medicine at Duke University. She joined Duke Family Medicine as an attending faculty member in August 2006 and held the role of Medical Director for five years. She continues to be actively involved in teaching the residents and medical students, transforming clinical practice and seeing patients.

She joined the academic/teaching environment as an opportunity to share her experiences and to help develop new doctors in our changing healthcare environment. She tries to bring to teaching a fresh perspective from the private practice realm to the academic/ teaching medical setting. She is excited about her new role as Medical Director and is anxious to begin her work with us.

We are so pleased to welcome Dr. Trujillo to this new, expanded role with Givens Estates. We believe Givens Estates will benefit from her vast experience and wealth of knowledge as we work with her in the role of Givens Estates Medical Director.
