MAHEC at Givens Estates
Givens Estates and MAHEC (Mountain Area Health and Education Center) have worked together for nearly 20 years to provide on-site health care services for the residents of Givens Estates. The services available have increased during the years and today include an on-site physician clinic (Family Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, and Gynecology) open Monday–Friday; Coumadin clinic; limited in-home physician visits; physician care for residents in assisted living and skilled care; and Medical Direction for the campus.
MAHEC is a member of the North Carolina AHEC system, one of the oldest and most extensive AHEC systems in the country. MAHEC is affiliated with the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, School of Medicine, and provides graduate medical education in Geriatric Medicine, Family Medicine, OB/GYN, Pharmacy, and Dentistry. Givens Estates works with MAHEC by serving as a clinical education site for the Family Practice Residency Program, Geriatric Fellowship Program, and Nursing Programs.
